Dharmendra Pradhan Resigns: Inside His Political Journey

Dharmendra Pradhan is not the Union Education Minister anymore. This happened because students over the country were really unhappy with him. They were unhappy for a time. The reason was that some exam papers got leaked and other bad things happened during the entrance tests.

Dharmendra Pradhan gave his resignation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on July 25 2026. At that time people were talking about the problems with the NEET-UG exams. Dharmendra Pradhan was in the middle of all this.

Dharmendra Pradhan has been with the BJP party for a while now. Dharmendra Pradhan started working in student politics in Odisha. Then Dharmendra Pradhan took on roles in the Union ministries. Dharmendra Pradhan has had a journey, in politics. He has been doing this for a time.

Early Life and Entry into Student Politics

Born 1969 Talcher Odisha, son of BJP leader Debendra Pradhan, he studied anthropology at Utkal University, joined ABVP, rose through student politics, and became BJP organiser across states India-wide roles

Growing Role Inside the BJP

Pradhan was a person in the BJP organisation even when he was not an elected member. He did a lot of work for the organisation as a secretary. Later as the general secretary. He was in charge of the work in states like Karnataka, Bihar, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh and Uttarakhand. This helped him become well known outside of Odisha. People started to see him as a person who knows how to win elections.

Pradhan became a member of the Rajya Sabha in 2012 from Bihar. Then in 2018 he became a member again from Madhya Pradesh. He was very active in Parliament. Also did work for the Union government. The BJP organisation and Pradhan are still doing a lot of work together. Pradhan is still a figure, in the BJP organisation.

Petroleum Minister in the Modi Government

Dharmendra Pradhan became well known after 2014 when he was made the Minister of State for Petroleum and later he was the Cabinet Minister until 2021. He was in charge of the Ujjwala Yojana and the PAHAL subsidy transfer and the Give It Up campaign which helped to make LPG available to people.

Dharmendra Pradhans time as Minister of State for Petroleum and Cabinet Minister got praise for helping to include people but Dharmendra Pradhan also got criticism for the high cost of LPG and the issues, with gas usage.

The NEET Controversy and Student Protests

Pradhan was the Education Minister. He had a lot of problems during his last time in this job. People were really upset about the NEET-UG 2026 paper leak. They thought it was his fault. Students and people from parties were protesting all over the country.

The CJP was saying that Pradhan should quit because he did not do a job. Even though some things were changed and people were talking about it people were still not happy with Pradhan. So he decided to leave his job. He said that the problem was bigger than his feelings and this was a big win for people who were protesting in India. Pradhan stepping down was a deal, in Indian politics.

What Comes Next for Dharmendra Pradhan?

Pradhan is not finished with politics just because he left the Education Ministry. He is still a leader in the BJP and a Member of Parliament from Sambalpur. What Pradhan does next depends on what happens with the controversy and the changes that come after.

The government will probably pick an Education Minister soon. This new Education Minister will work on fixing the problems with the NTA and making exam security better, over the country. The new Education Minister will do these things step by step in an organized way to make sure everything gets done properly.
