Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara 2 Development Confirmed

Fans who have spent years hoping to see Arjun, Kabir and Imran together again finally have a meaningful update. Director Zoya Akhtar has said that Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara 2 is being made. This is 15 years after the first movie, which was a road-trip story came out in theaters.

However, this is still an early development update. The filmmaker has not announced a shooting date, release date or officially confirmed the returning cast.

The Hollywood Reporter India had a conversation with Zoya Akhtar at the Monsoon Film Festival. Zoya Akhtar was asked about the sequel, to one of her movies that people have been waiting for for a long time. Her response confirmed that she and longtime collaborator Reema Kagti are developing the project.

At the time Akhtar said clearly that the team is still trying to find the right way to look at the characters again years after their first trip.

Story Must Feel Right Today

The challenge is not simply bringing the characters together again.

The original movie followed three childhood friends dealing with fears, relationships and personal problems during a bachelor trip across Spain. A sequel would need to explore where those same characters are many years later without simply repeating the first film. Akhtar said that the project will move forward only if the filmmakers get to a point where they feel it is right to continue with the characters.

Will the Original Cast Return?

The 2011 film starred Hrithik Roshan as Arjun, Farhan Akhtar as Imran and Abhay Deol as Kabir. Katrina Kaif, Kalki Koechlin and Naseeruddin Shah also appeared in important roles.

For now, there has been no fresh official cast announcement for the sequel.
